AHC30916 – Certificate III in Landscape Construction

What is the course about?

This qualification is part of the Horticulture Training Package, Landscape stream, & provides training for employment as a landscape tradesperson.

People working in the landscape industry typically are involved in paving, installing & maintaining irrigation systems, erecting & installing wooden structures, retaining walls, brick & concrete structures & general plant & landscape maintenance.

This qualification will expand your knowledge & skills & hence your employability in this field

You will be able to:

  • Erect timber structures & features
  • Install irrigation systems
  • Construct brick &/or block-structures & features
  • Construct concrete structure & features
  • Install water features
  • Implement landscape maintenance programmes
  • Coordinate paving & retaining wall work
  • Provide information on plants & their culture
  • Establish planted areas


How long is it going to take?

The course length is 36 months (3years). But this can be shortened depending on your current skills which can go towards recognition of prior learning (RPL). As part of this course you need to have access to a practical site to demonstrate your competency.


How is the qualification delivered?

If you are currently employed in Horticulture, training can be delivered through a “Traineeship”. The trainers come to your workplace & use your practical work experience combined with the bookwork to help you achieve your certificate.

What does the course contain?

Completion of fifteen (15) units made up of twelve (12) core units and three (3) elective units.


A maximum of three (3) units may be selected from units aligned to Certificates II, III or IV in AHC10 or from any other currently endorsed training package or accredited course. Selected units must be relevant to job outcomes in the landscape construction industry.

Client(s)Target group are primarily engaged in the landscaping area of the horticulture industry environment, & are likely to be involved in coordinating a wide range of activities. Target group can be experienced workers in this type of organisation, but may have no qualification & or require up skilling of current knowledge & skills. They are existing new employees or can be longer existing workers.

Organisation: The 15 units of competency in the qualification have been organised into an on-the-job training programme comprising of three ‘general work skills’ modules & four ‘applied industry skills’ modules.The programme is organised so that candidates are provided with background information on the core skills of carrying out a landscaping process are given the opportunity to apply these skills in the ‘applied industry skills’ modules.The alignment between the units of competency & the training programme appears on the following page.
