AHC21016 – Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management
What is the course about?
This qualification is suitable for people wanting work in land, flora and fauna conservation. The work would be carried out under general guidance and supervision.
Job titles may include: Conservation worker
What is it going to do for me?
It provides students with the skills & knowledge needed to work under supervision as a skilled operator or assistant to a manager in the conservation & land management industry. Students complete a range of general conservation & land management modules & may choose electives from a range of industry specific modules.
Depending on the subject chosen, you will be able to:
- Assist in maintaining wildlife habitats
- Be involved in the restoration of natural areas
- Help in identifying plants and collect seed for flora restoration projects
- Help control weeds and pests
- Help maintain fencelines that protect natural flora and fauna
How long is it going to take?
As an ‘independent’ student (not studied under Contract of Training conditions) the learning can be self-paced; so the length of time to complete the qualification is dependent on the learner’s current skills and ability to commit time to their studies. As a Traineeship (studied under a Contract of Training) this qualification has a nominal length of 18 months (1.5 years). This can be shortened depending on your current skills, which can go towards recognition of prior learning (RPL).
How is the qualification delivered?
If you are currently employed in Conservation & Land management, training can be delivered through a Traineeship. The trainers come to your workplace & use your practical work experience combined with the bookwork to help you achieve your certificate.

What does the course contain?
Completion of fifteen (15) units including two (2) core units and thirteen (13) electives)
Elective Units
- A minimum of four (4) units must come from elective group A
- A minimum of six (6) units must come from elective groups A or B
- A maximum of three (3) units may be selected from units aligned to Certificates II or III in AHC or from any other currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course. Selected units must meet job outcomes relevant to conservation and land management.
