AHC30816 – Certificate III in Arboriculture

What is the course about?

This qualification is part of the Horticulture Training Package, Arboriculture stream, & provides training for employment as an Arboriculture tradesperson. Arboriculture is all about the care & management of trees. People involved in this industry are usually involved in planting of trees in private & public gardens, parks & streetscapes, the maintaining the health of trees, removal & transplanting of large trees, pruning & shaping of trees. Job titles may include: Arborist.

 

What is it going to do for me?

This qualification will expand your knowledge & skills & hence your employability in this field. You will be able to:

  • Planting of trees in private & public gardens, parks & streetscapes
  • Maintaining the health of trees
  • Removal & transplanting of large trees
  • Pruning & shaping of trees
  • Managing the root systems of trees
  • Provision of advice on tree planting & maintenance
  • Assessment of tree health

 

How long is it going to take?

The course length is 36 months (3 years). But this can be shortened depending on your current skills which can go towards recognition of prior learning (RPL).

 

How is the qualification delivered?

If you are currently employed in Horticulture, training can be delivered through a “Traineeship”. The trainers come to your workplace & use your practical work experience combined with the bookwork to help you achieve your certificate.

 

What does the course contain?

  • Completion of 23 units made up of fourteen (14) core units & nine (9) elective units.

ELECTIVE UNITS

  • A minimum of seven (7) units must come from elective group A
  • A minimum of four (4) units must come from elective groups A or B
  • A maximum of two (2) units may be selected from units aligned to Certificates II, III, IV or Diploma in AHC10 or from any other endorsed training package. Selected units must be relevant to job outcomes in the arboriculture industry.

Client(s): Target group are primarily engaged in Arboriculture in the horticulture industry environment, & is likely to be involved in coordinating a wide range of activities. Target group are experienced workers in this type of organisation, but may have no qualification & or require up skilling of current knowledge & skills. They are existing new employees or can be longer existing workers. target group are primarily engaged in a horticulture industry, is an experienced worker

Delivery & assessment arrangements

 

Duration: The program is delivered over a period of …36 MONTHS….

Organisation:  The 23 units of competency in the qualification have been organised into an on-the-job training programme comprising of three ‘general work skills’ modules & the application of skills in arboriculture  modules.

The programme is organised so that candidates are provided with background information on general skills such as, in the ‘general work skills’ modules & are given the opportunity to apply these skills in the ‘applied industry skills’ modules.

For example, Apply WHS requirements, policies & procedures in the construction industry, policies & procedures in the construction industry & the applied industry skill- Prepare & Apply Chemicals.

It is only when the client successfully completes both modules that they deemed competent in the unit of competency Apply OHS requirements, policies & procedures in the construction industry
